A Brief MV Timeline

April 29, 1980: DG announces the 32-bit Eclipse MV... The "Eagle" finally landed!

The MV flagship - MV/8000 - is Data General's initial answer to the 32-bit marketplace.

1981: ...and is the only machine associated with a Pulitzer prize!

1981: The second machine in the MV line is announced - the MV/6000.

1982: The next machine - the MV/4000 - brings MV power at reduced cost and space.

1984: The high-end MV/10000 is introduced.

1985: The MV/2000 DC attacks the mid-range market,

and the DS/7500 targets the graphics workstation market.

1985: The new top-end MV/20000.

1986: MV/8700.

1986: MV/15000.

1988: The high-end MV/40000 HA brings a new term to the MV line - High Availability.

1989: while the next year sees the entry level MV/1000 system with a new, small form factor.

1989: MV/18000 series. Single or multiple processor configurations for double your fun.

1990: MV/3000 series. Cost-effective entry-level multi-user systems.

1990: MV/5000 series. Cost-effective, mid-level multi-user systems.

1990: MV/30000 series. High-performance, multi-processor, top-level multi-user systems.

1990: MV/9000 series. Successor to the mid-level MV/5000-series systems.

1992: MV/60000 HA series - the successor to the MV/40000 HA series, and last major high-end MV systems.

Alas, the AViiON and CLARiiON products carried DG through the end of the decade. But some of us still remember the phrase "MVs are forever"...
